Type of Governor: L.A
Time on board: Since 2004
Why did you become a Governor?
I am a qualified public finance accountant and currently work for KPMG an international firm of accountants and advisors. My job involves advising councils, housing organisations and other public sector organisations on how to improve and deal with the problems they face. I was interested in using the skills and expertise I have developed, to give something back to the community. As a father of two sons at Kingstone, I wanted to get involved in the financial and business development side of the school. I was Chair of the Finances & General Purposes Committee, and Vice Chair of the board of governors, prior to taking on the role of Chair in April 2008.
What is good about Kingstone?
I have been impressed by the way that Kingstone focuses on fulfilling the individual needs of each pupil.
There are lots of things going on at Kingstone, in terms of events and shows and the school also seems to have a dynamic atmosphere. I think the staff, the pupils and the governors all work well together and towards a single purpose.
What are your hopes for the future of Kingstone?
I hope the transition to the Accelerated Learning Centre is managed in a way that is sustainable and keeps everyone motivated to achieve their best. I’m looking forward to the opportunities for children from Barnsley that will come from the merger between Kingstone and Holgate.
